Some of the older members will disagree and some may agree with this, but if you were around the forums say, oh, say 2002, the atmosphere around here was quite different.  Flaming ran rampart, people avoided the forums at all costs, and generally it was a cesspool of off topic, random dribble.

Some people with lower maturity levels may wish to go back to those days, and if they do, then they are freely welcome to make their own forums and post all of that stuff there.  But on these official forums, rules have been set in place to allow for the majority of people to have a pleasant time while using the forums and allowing for them to feel welcomed being here.

2002?  Wherever did you come up with that number?

I think I might need to let you know, but the forums were ALL WE HAD in 2002.  There was no game, and very few people actually knew Planeshift existed.  So how in the world would people avoid the forum "at all costs" where "flaming ran rampa[n]t".  So sorry if it was "random dribble", seeing as how we didn't actually have a game to talk about.  Nevertheless we were a tightly knit community.  Coincidentally, some of the most revered people in this community came from that time or shortly after.

That said, who in the hell wants to go back to that?  That does not make any sense, and  I for one have never said such a thing.    And we did have moderators then.  Good moderators.  whitti, Venge, etc.  Unfortunately they became inactive (whitti quit and Venge was working, and the others were never active) and we more or less had to do our own form of moderation.

In conclusion, your ill-conceived bashing of a time you were not around for proves just why you're on Mogura-levels of moderation.

I'll go find an old post......http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=850.0
I've been around since 2002 and a lot of these people were noobs back then.  I don't think cmhitman would make a good forum mod but I really miss him.

Haha, cm was banned a long time ago.  And he deserved it (harassing Kada).  Though if I remember correctly it was lifted then he was promptly banned again for spamming.  Maybe it was the other way around.

I'm surprised none of the outlaws spray painted the "Its good to be bad." motto onto that sign yet...
:whistling:
Something like this?

Wow. What part of "we need to be nice here" don't you understand?

Wait, I know what this is all about. You don't like Neko and his moderating skills, so how ironic that you would post in "we need to be nice here" thread a nitpicky post about what he said. Your to sensitive Kiern. You stated that once about me and now I am returning the favor. Maybe you should not take peoples posts to heart so much.

[Edit] Oh and I completely agree with tuxides original post. I think we could all benift from being a little nice to one and other. We won't be driving our mods so crazy with having to put their foot down if we did.

Wow. What part of "we need to be nice here" don't you understand?

The part where there is reasoning for "needing to be nice".  Even neko himself said that's not true.  Why should I be nice to people I don't like?  I have to do that all the time at my job, it's in no way relaxing and often-times things turn out worse because of it.  And I'm here to relax during my off time.  If you see me invading fun topics with insulting posts, then I can understand your problem.  But I've never replied to something that wasn't there.

Wait, I know what this is all about. You don't like Neko and his moderating skills, so how ironic that you would post in "we need to be nice here" thread a nitpicky post about what he said. Your to sensitive Krien. You stated that once about me and now I am returning the favor. Maybe you should not take peoples posts to heart so much.

The guy completely bashed not only the forums of that time, but all the members of the community then.  Some of which were good friends of mine.  Simply because some of the present day 2002ers happen to annoy him.  Which I'm not even sure if there's anyone included in that besides me, but I'm not going to make assumptions about that.

I wasn't going to say a word until I saw his post.  And I'm the one at fault here?  Of course I am.  Because I'm Kiern.  And he's going to be taken as an authority on the topic even though HE WAS NOT THERE.  Simply because he's a moderator.  Isn't there some sort of professionalism that goes along with that?  Isn't that what a whole other topic was about?  And then all I get in response is an innocuous statement that has nothing to do with the topic.  If you're going to make a statement like that at least back it up.

Whatever.  zorbels, I understand what you're trying to say.  And I appreciate the way you said it.  But it is what it is.   Just remember I'm not the one who brought it up.

These forums are a lot better than they were before. If you don't notice that, it's because you never have read threads from the guild forums of olden. Our moderators are currently more active and competent and I say that because it is visible. Again, I speak of the Guild Forums... The rest of the forums are too boring for me to care. But I've also noticed less "I'm leaving because you suck" and "The community is rotten" threads, so that must mean it's a general change.

Obviously these and other touchy topics are bound to sprout from times to times, as people are never glad with what they have. And that's just fine with me, because it keeps that dynamic disagreement and rethorical dispute I so much enjoy!

It's normal that being nice helps everyone. But does this help actually pays up, or would we rather have fun or benefit from putting other people down?

Tuxide has claimed that we need to be nice to others. However I have seen him more than once put the DE down casually. In the end, I don't think we'll ever be nice to everyone or mean to everyone. We'll keep choosing the proportions as its best (more entertaining/useful) for us. Limits should be traced though. And as a related note, Tuxide's jokes are well within the limits. :P

Kiern, the forums moderators have an objective job and they do it. If the players do not appreciate it they should mention it to the authority capable of fixing it. If many players manifest themselves, than it should be fixed. If it's not, then people can either settle up with it or change game.
If only a couple of players are upset... Well, bad luck for them. Better them than the rest of us.
Disclaimer: This is my opinion and I can be reasoned with. I'm probably right, though.

To be fair, no one said the forums used to be better.  I certainly never did, never have, and never will.  neko brought that up.  Basically the community was made up of those who stuck around longer than a month..  And there was certainly no "oldbies vs. newbies".  At least not to the extent there is today.  Even people like cm were a part of it.   So no, it wasn't better community-wise.

And as for the rest of your post, historically that's been proven to be incorrect.  I'd elaborate but we'd further stray from the original topic.  The only thing I take issue with is the careless bashing of former PS members for no apparent reason by an authority figure.  As I said, Mogura-levels.  Whether or not that's an actual insult depends on who you are.

There's a reason I'm not a moderator.   ;)

But really, it depends on what your opinion of her as a moderator was.  There's no doubt her personality was a good one.  I'm just saying their ways of doing things are incredibly similar.

I think, though, it's quite obvious not being "nice enough" isn't the problem.  If there even is one.  Sometimes people are nice, sometimes they're not.  It's just the way it goes.

Here's my input: I do agree that some posters need to be nicer, but I also think people just need to roughen up. Some of y'all are pathetic and overly-sensitive, which can make you a really nice person, but those are not good qualities for someone on an online forum. Some people feel like they can be as rude as they want since they know they'll never meet the person they're bashing/insulting/whatever. But sometimes you overly-sensitive people take things way too seriously, even just a simple joke. Even if you're sensitive, it shouldn't matter, because this is the internet and yadda-yadda. So, yeah, everyone just needs to lighten up and stop taking everything so sensitively.

I agree. None of the extremes should be around: no overly sensitive people and no rude people.

You were speaking of the past and so I spoke about it too.

About Mogura levels... Mogura completely went unnoticed by me, much like I don't pay much attention to what Neko does. I consider this as them doing a great job not upsetting me with their moderation. ^^

Personally I don't think it makes sense to criticize people from the past just like I don't think it makes sense defending them. They can only be used as examples, besides that there's very little relevance to them.

Hmm. Tuxide, we may have to revise the topic to "Don't be an ass" since "Be nice" is beyond the capacity for some here.

About the forum in the past? Don't care. Don't care if it was filled by Mother Theresas or Genghis Khans. Simply does not matter. Should not have been brought up, should not have been blown up into a hissy fit. Way to go in turning a relatively positive feeling 'tongue in cheek' thread into a negative quagmire. I am disappointed in of both of you.

Neko, please avoid comparing things now to things in the past. That hardly ever turns out good. And as said, it does not matter.

Waterman, I suggest you edit your sig to say, "Not coming back until I have a better attitude."

Raa I have a suggestion, try to be kind. Remember there is a real person behind both the character in game and the one typing here in the forums. As for your statement ‘lighten up’ I suggest you take it a little more seriously because people do have feelings. Besides that I think it is better to be ‘nice’ then not.
