As the prisoner is escorted to jail by the guards, Viloran addresses the crowd:
-The thief has been apprehended thanks to the aid of brave citizens -He says loudly- You can put your weapons away now. The situation is under control.
Then, as they get closer, he continues with the explanation:
- Most of you did not know it, but all this time we had been setting a trap for the thief. A trap in which he fell helplessly. Citizens Arnin, Illysia, Eurac, Karoff, Leumasocyw, Scisel, Aiwendil, Tadill, Quarry, Grikl, and Gwinn were of vital help. They posed as decoys to be robbed by the thief and delivered an number of trias enchanted with an antimagic spell. This spell corrupted the staff the thief had stolen and brought him down to his demise.
Monala interrupts him with a question that was not in her mind alone:
- Sir Viloran, I've a question: Why'd it take the guards so long to come take care a' this?
- We needed careful planning to nullify the weapon he had taken, citizen. Despite the criticism, if I may add. The victims were instructed to deliver the trias we had prepared for him. The magic in these staffs is very powerful. That is why no regular weapons could stand a chance against them. With the enchanted trias, we made sure the staff's magic was drained. That is why we recruited so many citizens. We determined that the thief would not hurt them if they cooperated, so we provided him with the perfect targets.
- How were the citizens recruited -someone says.
- Citizens who expressed their interest in helping the guards instead of running around playing vigilante with their swords drawn were selected for this mission.
- And what of the other rogues? -another voice asks.
- The rogues were probably sellswords. If any of you could identify them we will hunt them down. If you know anything about them, please report these thugs to the guards. The prisoners will be held in custody until their trial.
Viloran takes a few seconds to assess the situation quickly then speaks again:
- Very well, I think we've all had enough excitement for now. If you'll excuse us, we have some criminals to question now. You can all return to your homes now. And remember: Obey the law. Guards, back to the barracks.
With this last order, the guards head back to their headquarters in the Library district, leaving the citizens behind to tell the story on their own. The crystal slowly starts to light up as the morning makes its way into the realm. With dawn, the Night Thief is finally a threat no more.
