how i got rid of linkdead message
« Reply #210 on: March 16, 2004, 01:33:22 am »
When i put the grafics up yo 1024X768 and put the 3D
to \"software\" it gave me a linkdead message. If you just lower resolution to lowest level and activate open
GL it should allow you to plat the game.

All I had to do was turn my firewall off. Although this makes me uncomfortable because then im open to attacks from spam popups etc. I just need to find a way to let my firewall know is OK to let the game run. The game doesnt show up in the list so im having trouble enabling it.

I\'ve just downloaded the game today and extracted everything.

Like most of you here, I too had trouble entering the game, which took me here to get some info and help. It only took me 15 minutes to get the game running.

I did not go through those port 13331 and UDP on my router at all. And, WinXP does NOT have a problem with the game at all.

Basically, what I did to get the game running are:

1. I deleted all names that I\'ve created first  (that failed connections).

2. Then, ran the Plainshift Updater (which was suggested by one of the members).

3. Created my NEW character.

4. I used the server IP 203.81.47.74 that was suggested.

5. Created my Username

6. created my password. (At first my password had 10 characters which did not let me connect. so, I took out the NUMBERED characters from my password.)

7. Lucky 7! I\'m in the game!

I\'m not sure if password does not allow numerals. Can anyone confirm this?

Anyway... I logged out of the game because I had no idea how to get around the game... I needed more time reading the manual/tutorials. :)

I love the detailed graphics of the environment!

GOOD LUCK everyone!

Numbers in the password are supported. It\'s just that it can\'t be  longer than 6 chars (at least I heard of it)

Worked Once but Never Again
« Reply #217 on: April 25, 2004, 06:56:52 am »
When I first created an account it was working perfectly except for the lag. I exited and later tried to log back on. Turned out I forgot my password already. Anyway, I created Yahiko and right when I finished creation it said \"deadlink\" and I got kicked out of the client. So does it being worked once but never again make your answer change?

--A few minutes after I posted this before--

I attempted to load Yahiko(this time I remembered the password) but now it says \"database error\". I\'ve tried trashing the file but it says its still working...

port forwarding + dns -> IP solved linkdead for me
« Reply #222 on: May 24, 2004, 02:31:10 pm »
port forwarding 13331 + changing the server name to IP address  solved the linkdead problem for me.

It did take me 4 passes at creating a charater to get it working tho - perhaps a simpler method of character deletion / better database consistency would be useful?

Hello I just got everything downloaded and installed but like many others got the linkdead message. I tried to change the name to IP like was suggested, but once I click upload it pauses like its going to go to the next step but doesnt.

It just seems to pause then after about a minute seems like it just ignored what i tried to do. Am I supposed to wait a while at that point? Best way I could explain it is the little cursor to change letters or numbers on the account is blinking to begin once I change to the IP it stops blinking for a bit like its trying then a minute later its blinking again like it didnt want to do it.

I dont know how to check if I have a firewall so havent got to try that method. I run on DSL

Thanks in advance if anyone can think of any suggestions
