Same problem here, i tried to create three characters, got with all of them the deadlink message, and they are all unuseful now (database error, etc). i tried with and without zonealarm (the lil\' firewall i use) without any change :(

Can\'t use the \"compatibility mode\" because i\'m with win2000..  and using the numerical ip doens\'t help too

i\'ll try again tomorrow (after my final high school exam :p) and i\'ll eventually post results, if they may help..

Change the port
« Reply #32 on: July 06, 2003, 05:20:27 am »
I have a router and at the moment my network is using the port 13331 both UDP and TCP is there a way to change the port that the game uses? Such as changing something in one of the files or something in Window\'s registry?

-Thanks for the Help

Deadlink Woes
« Reply #33 on: July 12, 2003, 10:17:25 pm »
Well I have tried all of the suggested fixes in this thread, but nothing works. I now have several characters on the server, but none of them ever worked.

I can get on in guest mode and run around, but whenever I create a character it link deads me.

Can you delete the following.....\"Cobrec\" \"Tazmin\" \"Zymin\", and \"Tallac\", I don\'t remember any other characters, so they are lost in the void.

I think Dial-up must be to slow for this game..... Alas I am doomed to dial up for all eternity

I will continue to check to see what suggestions come up, and BTW I am NOT using a firewall, so that isn\'t the problem

bye,

Hey alisandro I have the same Router an SMC Barricade, did you just put your system in the DMZ section, or did you also open up the port in the Virtual Server and/or Special Apllication section of the router setup? The Barricade seems troublesome when trying to open ports to a machine. Doesn\'t want to do it, then one day, suddenly the port is open.

Hi,

I had the same problem, i just use the IP instead the domainname and add the udp-port 13331 to my iptables.forward.
And it works fine :)
BUT .. i have to free the port everytime i want to play the game.

It seem that PS dont free the port at quit.

Ok assuming anyone is reading my post.

These are the things I have tired.

1. change the name to IP

2. make sure win xp firewall is off

3.  convert the compatibilty of the correct files to win 98

4. anything else that was posted in this thread tat I might have forgotten.

Being as this may, I am begining to lose all hope of being able to play this game......... As I stated before I can get on under guest, but that sucks as I can\'t do anything................  I tried installing this game on a win 98 machine, but then it refused to patch......................

I guess I am the guy with all the problems, it seems like everone else got this fixed.

I FINALLY GOT AROUND THE LINKDEAD AND DATABASE ERROR
« Reply #40 on: July 15, 2003, 07:53:51 pm »
ok ok now. Im a new user. I just wanted to say i found a way in to the game after creating dozens of accounts which i hope the admin will delete, (freelander, freelancer, enforcer) just to name a few.

First off my system has the following spec\'s.

-Nvidia nforce 2 mother board
-AMD Athlon Xp 2700+ (2.0ghz)
-2 GB of pc 2700 ddr memory
-Nvidia Gforce 4 Ti 4600
-Windows Xp with Service Pack 1

-I have a home network and I am using a Linksys Router/Firewall.

I was able to get the game to run only if

1.) you set the compatability mode to Win98/ME
2.) convert the DNS to the IP address
3.) Access the Router and put it on \"DMZ\"
( i know, i know it would completly expose your computer to the internet, but its the only way i can get it to comunicate with the servers). I tried port forwarding before that and i kept getting the database error.

Please delete 'ravenous'
« Reply #44 on: July 19, 2003, 11:08:32 pm »
I created \'ravenous\' and had the standard bevy of problems... immediate \"linkdead\" message followed by a dialog that says there is a \"Database error\" with my account, please contact an admin.

update: Nevermind, i found the other post that talks bout the admin / delete yourself page. It\'s all good now :)
