Guilds Forum / Re: Dark empire discussion

Well... Interesting discussion, once it starts off. :whistling: The concept of Honour, as I see it, differs enourmously according to which culture and time period you are referring to. Honour to a Roman (or rather "virtus") is quite different to a medieval knight's Honour (Arthurian ideal). And Machiavelli's Virtue (or "virtu") could barely qualify as Honour.

But I have one thing to set strait.

Napoleon motto was "Freedom, Equality and Fraternity" from what I remember.

As a matter of fact, Napoleon Bonaparte didn't have much to do with the 1789-1793 French Revolution. What he did do was establish a Consulate after Robespierre's reign of Terror, before being crowned Emperor of the French (and getting involved in world politics to a certain degree, such as invading Prussia and all that ;) ). And initially, France's new motto was "Liberty, Equality", since it is said the revolutionnaires weren't too keen to being fraternal with the monarchists, who were still powerful (heck, they reinstored a king during the 19th century). "Fraternity" was added under the IIIrd Republic (1848-1940).

Anyway...  :offtopic:

Right, trigger-happy as I am, I missed entirely this post.

Interesting point that was brought up, somewhat,  in-game yesterday by some who wished to discuss setting a standardized price for the sale of steel and weapons. It seems, though, some of the "younger, hungrier" citizens of Yliakum are reluctant to entertain such ideas, because, as they stated very passionately in-game, "collusion is illegal in my country." So, it seems that so long as there are those who want nothing to do with anything that smacks of a cartel, no-matter their reason, the idea is unlikely to work.

What what? Crafters meeting to arrange prices?

Argh! The merchants are back and are plotting to overcome the fair city of Yliakum! Run for your lives before they start their may-I-interest-you-in-our-wares approach. :o

Hum... Sorry, just my little hystery moment.

So, what is the state of the stock exchange?

Right, I changed fonts to 50%. Can't read anything anymore, but guess what? Runs smoothly. :D

It's quite a mystery for me : I checked my char's description and it's only a couple of lines long. Some character's ingame have descriptions sooo long you have to scroll for ages.

Anyhow, switching back to 100% still crashes the game. I'll rewrite my descr and keep you informed.

Glad to see some posters are trigger-happy on this forum. ;)

Edit : Right, first I deleted my descr with fonts 50%, then replaced it with a short one (after logging back in at 100%). No problems so far, so this issue seems fixed. I guess it has something to do with the upgrade to the newest version... ???

Hello PS people ! \\o//
Just picked up the game again after discovering I'd missed two updates... Shame on me.

Anyway, I had two chars since 0.3.015. The first one I can play, nothing wrong there. But when I try and load my main, the client crashes ??? and Windows sends me "psclient.exe crashed, you've had it, dude ; send us a report we won't read". ;)

Any clues ? I've tried rebooting my computer, but not reinstalling (seems a bit daft, since I just installed 0.3.018 clean).

In the gloom of the Death Realm, Wildan tries to come to terms with his recent demise. Wandering aimlessly through the Citadel, he keeps having the same thoughts.

"Why me? What have I done to this poisoner? I don't remember selling a fake steel weapon to anyone, not that I would. Well, even if I had, that kind of reaction would be out of proportion. I just don't get it.

"Who would be cruel enough to kill randomly so many people? He obviously spiked the drinks, so anyone could have been a victim. Thank Talad there weren't so many at the fair!

"Well, why would this murderer do so anyway? I just don't get it!

"And above all, Ebrasch owes me some Trias..."

Well I quite like the concept. It's a nice change from goodie-samaritan-guilds (no offense meant  ;)
) and evil-doers.

The thing is, I don't seem to find many members in-game, not to mention leaders. Are you still active? Because I'm (Wildan that is) considering joining...

See you at the smithy, hopefully

The fables thread is quite interesting. I liked "The Ogre, the Kran and the Pterosaur". Steuben's is also very nice. And the one about the girl singing is a typical story for children (or kittens ;)).

For enkis: "Well, that just curls my tail!"
Could you give us some context there?

And if you know of any other similar thread, post a link. It would be nice to have them all linked to this post.

Well what an event! This was a first in Hydlaa and people gathered in Laanx Temple to see it happen. The trial lasted quite some time, as these things usually do. But all participants remained concentrated on their task to the very end.

There were a few interruptions, but all were handled magnificently by Judge Shreamah. In the end, the prosecution failed to establish the guilt of the defendant for those charges, but did establish that Daehaz had kidnapped Gwinn Frawd. No decision was taken, for Daehaz lost control and launched himself on poor Lady Gwinn. Unar intervened and sent him to better world. The furious jury stormed out of the temple, whilst plans were drawn to recapture the Klyros... Let all inhabitants of Hydlaa beware!

[For those of you who couldn't make it, here's a brief overview of the proceedings, in the form of a few screenshots . Now you know why I kept running around for 4 hours  ;) ]

[And congratz to all, jurors, prosecution, judge, witnesses, etc. You did a brilliant job and led a memorable RP event!]

Baldur: Yes, verses that rhyme are easier to remember, but try as I may, I never seem to get them right that way  :(. What's more, you can write poetry that doesn't rhyme, which suits me fine  :D.

Anyway, Laragorn seems to have got the right idea, although those sayings give a sensation of déjà-vu  ;).

If you have great RP lines, share them! The other day, I was saying goodbye to another player and I said: "A star shines on our meeting." People familiar with Professor T's works will have recognised a famous elven greeting. But then I thought: "Hang on, we're living underground, there can't be any stars." You see, it's this kind of problem I'd also like to solve.

And I'll dig out that fables thread...

Hello fellow PlaneShift fans! \\o//

Well people seem to be eager to share their character history. But what I'm interested in is the context of PS. As an occasional DM of roleplaying games, that's what I prefer. Now I know the devs have their ideas on Yliakum's history, but I think there is a way we players can contribute.

There is one thing that is never defined by historians and such alike, and that is folklore. By definition it is the voice of the people. So I tought we could put in this post every piece of Yliakum folklore we run across, such as sayings, old stories, bedside stories, nursery rhymes, etc. Use your imagination! Or we could also list interesting RP lines, such as: "May the crystal ever shine on you."

The aim is to create a context that would be specific to Yliakum (living in a stalactite does that to societies ;)) and promote RP by giving players tools to use. I'm not saying we should write the history of PS, just add a little touch we can all relate to. I'll give an example with this rhyme I wrote, inspired by celtic "series", which associated numbers with ideas.

[RP ON] The Dodecalogue is an old rhyme that mothers used to teach their children. It is therefore also known as Old Mother's Words, although scholars prefer to refer to it as The Rhyme of Structure. It lists the important aspects of life in Yliakum, but some verses have been twisted by many retellings and have become obscure.

Quote
The Dodecalogue

One realm of beings
By divine force carved
One stone of azure
To bring life and strength

Two beings like no other
None the wiser, none the brighter
By love and hate bound by fate
For endless years of sorrow and glory

Three ages you shall see
Miss not one for fear of grief
Add no days to the count
Or at peril prolong them

Four doors to reach
Two are open, one is closed
One backwards will bring you
Think wisely, take not the last

Five winds of beauty
Inspiration, fascination
Practice, knowledge
Add love for good measure

Six parts of a single power
Ever divided, ever united
To wield it set your mind
Brace yourself, embrace the one

Seven ways of gaining coin
Riches great and rewards high
But periless is every one
Live honest, die old

Eight worlds to inhabit
A miracle unscrutable
Share them, preserve them
Means of death create not

Nine walls of the mind
Thrice founded, thrice destroyed
Thrice rebuilt by patient labour
Greet others, respect their friendship

Ten knights in gleaming armour
Swords raised poised to strike
Ten guardians of solid stone
Shields unbreakable bourne for ever

Eleven gems from water drained
Each brighter than the other
Ever they escape your grasp
Envy their tinkling sound

Twelve rhymes of wisdom ancient
By all and none composed
Rules of conduct, tales from the future
Learn and repeat, forget them not

So, what d'you reckon?
