The term "dryken plane" is likely a misspelling of "drunken plane", referring to a human interest story from 2015 about an engineering student who designed an aircraft while drunk". So the feeling of intoxication, drunken hallucination and flying through an illusion may best describe Dryken Plane.
Sorry Mohonin, but how would an AI chat bot know, if no one in PS knows? This is simply slop, an AI hallucination. You know those AI bots will always give you an answer even if they haven't got the slightest clue, right? It ever so surely has nothing to do with drunken pilots or engineers.

As for your idea, Gonger, about having the Dryken Plane return in the form of a quest at a later point, I like it very much It is something that you can only savour after having found your way into the PS lore. Plus it would so well suit the "mind exploration" side of the Azure Way to be sent back there.

Regarding your 7th point...
Why the name Dryken plane... i think i got some idea why thou its just a guess. I Read it somewhere, don't know where. Maybe in the character creation screen when the lore of coming to Yliakum from Home world there was a description about passing through an illusion. This illusion is the Dryken plane.
I asked in google "dryken plane meaning" and the response i got is "Did you mean: draken plane meaning" and AI Overview "The term "dryken plane" is likely a misspelling of "drunken plane", referring to a human interest story from 2015 about an engineering student who designed an aircraft while drunk". So the feeling of intoxication, drunken hallucination and flying through an illusion may best describe Dryken Plane.
This also answers the question of why the name PlaneShift? it is cuz the plane of the homeland where one was walking is now changed to plane of Yliakum passing though the illusionary plane of Dryken Plane. So this Shift of Plane is PlaneShift.
All these are just guesses, don't take it all as true.

Regarding your 6th point...
My idea to this problem of first time player getting negative view of the game is, the new player will get a choice in the start that weather they want the introduction to be in one of these mode -- 'Easy', 'Medium' or 'Difficult'. In Difficult mode, it will be the same as it is now. In Medium mode, it will bypass the drykane plane and make the character spawn in the labyrinth caves. And in the Easy mode, it will bypass the dryken plane, labyrinth caves and spawn directly infront of the metallurgy or the food lady npc (i forgot which is the 1st npc) in the quest learning in the welcome area.

General Discussion / New Dryken Plane - thoughts and discussion
« Last post by gonger on November 20, 2025, 08:19:34 pm »
Hello,

We now have a new version of the much discussed Dryken Plane. The structure is much simplified, so that it now seems impossible to get lost. Someone who gets lost there now will never make the way from Hydlaa to Ojaveda!

A few points still seem worth mentioning / discussing because we do not get a second chance for a good first impression:

1) It could be made a bit more clear what the player is expected to do. Maybe add one more popup with an explanation?

2) Why are not always real objects used, but only graphics? This can look very bad.

3) If you pass this rock on the right side, the scene will not be triggered.

4) This mini-scene seemed particularly difficult to trigger. Maybe the trigger space is too small?

5) These mini-scenes I triggered in the sequence given by the numbers. Can this be more streamlined, or did I do something wrong there?

6) I would like to repeat an idea I had before, but which went largely unnoticed / uncommented: Instead of only having this introductory Dryken Plane, which otherwise is unrelated to the game, use different versions with increasing complexity at different points of the general storyline. Thus it becomes more of a feature instead of a one-time unrelated thing. And all players who get past the quest Menita's Puzzle should also be able to handle the original version of the Dryken Plane.

7) Where does the name Dryken Plane come from? Nobody I talked to seems to know...

That's it for now. Please do comment and discuss. It is in the starting area / tutorial that we lose or keep new players!

Thank you for reading,

Gonger

Uadjet: Hello and welcome to the Developer's Q&A! This is an out-of-character meeting where you can hear about the development of the game and ask the Dev and GM teams any questions you might have. If you do have any questions, please line up at the lecterns in front of the stage.
Damola: No question from me at the moment. Just an observation: It is possible to cast in lake. As I tried in the lake we had our event in Damola fell down and got damage.
Uadjet: You were standing in the water as you cast?
Gonger: That's a very good question, Damola. Also - should being in water not have some effect on water-based spells?
Damola: Swimming in the water, Uadjet.
Damola: But on casting it seems PSUnreal thought Damola must stand. And then she fell down.
Uadjet: Ahhh, swimming. I've not tried that myself. It's entirely possible that your character goes into the fishing 'pose' and then falls. I think most noticed yesterday that sitting or mantling while swimming sometimes takes you out of swimming mode and into running mode.
Damola: It appears to me PSUnreal then treated Damola as not swimming in the water anymore, but as standing in thin air.
Damola: And so she fell down.
Damola: Uadjet, in PS Legacy a char could stand in the thin air and as long as they did not move they would not fall down?
Damola: ? but that is not possible in PSUnreal anymore?
Damola: This would make the stalactite event thing we had in PS Legacy impossible to RP like we did back then.
Damola: Anyway, just an observation. Anyone any Q?
Anysu: That sit to stop swim was helpful.
Gonger: I think Uadjet's brain is rotating...
Uadjet: Yeah, in Legacy characters could Wile E. Coyote: You could stay floating in mid air as long as you didn't move. Or look down.
Damola: Yes, Anysu. But it is actually more like a bug.
Uadjet: The gravity in Unreal is a bit more perceptive.
Damola: Look down was possible. I did during that event in 2019.
Uadjet: I suppose the gravity in Legacy was like a T-Rex: It can't see you if you don't move.
Uadjet: I told you NOT to look down!
Anysu: Handy bug then if one were to find like chest under the water. So you could stop and open it.
Uadjet: Not because you'd fall, but because it was a long way down!
Damola: Haha, Uadjet, Damola did and was really shaken. See forum post.
Damola: Anysu, yeah, handy bug, I agree.
Uadjet: The floating upwards while in water... It can cause issues, but is it unrealistic?
Damola: Depends.
Damola: I believe if someone is diving consciously, they would do regarul movements to prevent floating up.
Damola: But if someone become unconscious they will float up I think.
Uadjet: I dunno. I'll mention it to Talad, as it does make underwater exploration a bit of a problem. Underwater dungeons would be fun, and swimming should be fairly smooth if we were to add one.
Gonger: It depends on the amount of air in the lungs.
Damola: I agree, Uadjet.
Damola: Realistic or not, that floating up is a bit inconvenient.
Damola: Also? I vote again for stronger Magic Light.
Anysu: Do like idea if you stop moving you would float to surface.
Uadjet: Running looks really good currently, especially the way characters now lean into turns. I love that.
Damola: Yeah, I love that too.
Anysu: Swimming just seems like I hardly am moving, And when you want to get back to shore quick, float up and swim to shore.
Uadjet: I recall hearing the Devs talking about movement years ago, and they were thinking about adding in racial modifiers to some forms of movement. Swimming and climbing, for example. I don't know if that'll ever happen, though. I do think swimming could be faster, especially on the surface.
Damola: I find swimming on the surface quite difficult. I find it difficult to either consistently look above the surface or below it.
Damola: Maybe? if there would be a little resistance in flipping between swimming and diving this would be easier.
Anysu: But then if you did float up when stopped moving, well that defeat remaining on ground beneath to explore.
Damola: But awesome that we actually *can* swim in PSUnreal. I love that feature.
Damola: Anysu, we already established automatic floating up as kind of inconvenient.
Uadjet: Yeah. Talad placed treasure chests in the lake for people to find. Actually, let me verify that before you go off searching.
Anysu: See there we need a way to 'stop' and remain on surface below to open that chest or even pick it up.
Damola: I am happy to have swimming and diving. I think it needs some refinements, but it is really good to actually have it.
Damola: Actually I think Gonger has a point with that in real life it is possible to manage some of that by volume of air in lungs.
Damola: Also? it might be possible to hold oneself to the ground.
Thosor: Lead boots...
Damola: However? I think probably cannot really walk on the ground like normal.
Damola: Unless you have heavy boots but then do you leave them on the ground to dive up again?
Resildren: did'nt i see some players walking in the lake?
Resildren: all i could do is swim?
Damola: Yeah, Resildren.
Damola: After attempting to sit for three times or so I was able to.
Damola: And others as well.
Damola: I think it is a bug.
Gonger: I was also walking for a while because coming from below I hit some piece of ground in a specific angle.
Damola: But a convenient one.
Gova: Using autorun while facing down kept me in one spot... kinda.
Damola: Ah, maybe that is a trigger, Gonger.
Damola: I am not entirely sure what triggers the walking on ground in lake "feature".
Anysu: I did the sit stand
Damola: I did that as well.
Uadjet: I've had it happen to me when I hit some ground and triggered a mantle action.
Damola: Maybe there are several ways to trigger it.
Damola: I fondly remember that using carpet to run through wall bug in Legacy PS.
Damola: Kind of miss that one.
Anysu: Can walk on air along side wall in Kada's if you go in back door, and move that way to railing,
Anysu: Done that a few times.
Damola: Hmmm, interesting.
Uadjet: New engine, new set of quirks.
Uadjet: Okay, so for the update: Talad's working on the Dryken Plane again, to make it clearer and more interactive.
Damola: There is a certain channel on YouTube where a guy does that to a maximum amount possible and game companies are basically sponsoring him the games so he can find bug in there
Uadjet: There are some new structures and puzzles he's working on, and he's planning new NPCs for the Dryken Plane.
Uadjet: Other than the eyeball thing.
Damola: Nice for Dryken Plane.
Damola: All what helps new players to stick around long enough to take part in some events and so on?
Damola: Eyeball thing?
Resildren: yep be nice to get the new players into the game a bit easier
Resildren: i'm sure we scared or frustrated many along the way
Uadjet: The thing you converse with on the floating islands.
Anysu: Eyeball thing is featured in that area and it speaks? I have not tried a new character so not sure.
Damola: Ah, that eyeball being in Dryken Plane.
Uadjet: Looks a bit like Hermaeus Mora's distant cousin.
Uadjet: Yeah. That, I think, is Vod?l.
Damola: I know you have been online quite a bit to actually help new players, Gonger. You told us so.
Gonger: True, that.
Damola: Thank you, Gonger.
Damola: While I was online so far now one asked in help channel.
Damola: Is help channel shown by default?
Resildren: on discord? yes
Anysu: The help channel connects to discord doesn't it?
Anysu: But is also seen in main though.
Gonger: Newbies have the Help channel activated by default.
Damola: No I mean in game.
Gonger: I think that was what Damola meant.
Damola: Ah, okay, thanks Gonger.
Damola: Yeah indeed.
Damola: Haha and I thought Talad may implement eye movement on our character models.
Damola: Anyway great news, so with next release good to test Dryken Plane again?
Damola: I wonder when it will be PlaneShift 0.8 :)
Uadjet: Not eye movement, but Talad has done some work on dialog animations.
Damola: Dialog animations?
Uadjet: In stream 1479 he loaded up some animations that NPCs will be able to use while talking. Players will be able to use them too, of course, but I'm not sure how it'll be added.
Uadjet: Yes?
Thosor: I wanted to mention I made a bug report of the whisper problem, thought it was already in there, but wasn't.
Damola: Stream 1479 ? consider that number. Impressive.
Damola: Yeah, I saw it. Well done, Thosor!
Thosor: Regarding towel, thank you Uajet for locating lost Hitchiker's towel in time for Towel day today. another question.. is
Thosor: When I went to fetch it from Miss Peckerly's pillows, I no longer hear her in the walls, has she succombed?
Uadjet: She's still in the Gug map...
Thosor: I must have dropped the towel the other day showing Gugrontid to a new player.
Damola: Oh? if Lady Peckerly went quiet, that is for sure a reason to have an event to heal her.
Damola: A quiet Lady Peckerly. Yliakum cannot function this way :)
Anysu: So any more on this dialogue animation? What will they be?
Damola: Will look whether she talks to me after the Q&A.
Uadjet: The dialog animations are head and arm movements.
Uadjet: I think it would be fun to have players start doing them automatically when typing in main, but that might not be possible or reasonable.
Uadjet: I'm not sure if facepalm/facepaw is in the cards. If that animation isn't perfect it'll be very strange and immersion breaking.
Damola: This really needs a rescue Lady Peckerly event!
>Anysu bursts into tears on Uadjet's shoulder.
Anysu: Sniff..facepaw or faceplam be nice..
Damola: Well yeah? I also wonder about race specific emotes? and some emotes I feel actually could break immersion quite a bit.
Damola: For example the dance emote is totally off. This is not a wild western game.
>Damola begins to dance.
Uadjet: Some emotes certainly could, but I don't think that's the case with the dialog animations. Those would vary somewhat by culture, of course, but the ones I saw seemed like normal movements people might make while talking.
Thosor: Maybe a more middle Eastern dance, bells on her fingers and bells on her toes.
Damola: I try to use some emotes in RP. Like shrug and follow me.
Gonger: Maybe the animations could be connected to verbs, like you type /nod with a text, and your character speaks the text while nodding.
Damola: But many others I have no idea when to use.
>Damola taunts everyone mercilessly.
>Damola shakes their head.
>Uadjet begins to dance.
Damola: Hmmm does not seem to work on a Derghir?
>Damola jumps around excitedly.
Damola: Any other news?
Damola: Or Q?
Uadjet: No, I don't have the same skeleton, so animations largely don't apply.
Uadjet: If you want to help bring new animations into the game, Mixamo is a great place to find them. I don't think they're adding new ones still, but there are some fun animations there.
Thosor: One cycle ago today the server (new) went down a couple days. has been solid since.
Ronasi: Real progress
Uadjet: That's all I have, so I think we can bring the meeting to a close. Thank you all for coming, and I'll see you all at the next meeting in two weeks!

Uadjet: Dev Q&A starting momentarily at the Courthouse of East Hydlaa! Come and hear about the development of the game and ask any questions you might have. If you need a teleport to the meeting, just ask in Global or send Uadjet a /tell.
Damola: I wanted to give some feedback for harvesting. I really went on a tour today from Gugontrid to Listarindel to Amdeneir and then I went with Ptero to Ojaveda and from there towards Raurim.
Uadjet: What did you find?
Damola: My result was 10 gobo root, 10 night mushroom at the large mine near Amdeneir and 12 Glaboria near Eagle Gobble village.
Damola: With Glaboria I could harvest more cause I saw two places in vicinity. I think for the gobo root I would have found the other place as well if I took more time to look.
Damola: But all in all I wondered? that is not quite much.
Damola: For such a way.
Damola: I also looked a bit aside from path ways from time to time, but nothing.
Damola: However I stayed quite close to official path ways.
Damola: I quite like the new harvesting approach. However I tend to think it would be good to have more places where harvestable plants grow.
Anysu: Awe if I was on earlier I could have seen where those areas were to harvest. I have not found many
Damola: Yliakum is very vast? and Damola had quite the travel today, but still only found places for these three items.
Damola: Anysu we can go together one time.
Anysu: That be neat
Damola: Don't know whether others tried and what your experiences were.
Anysu: There are some plants around Camp Banished
Damola: Thanks for letting me know.
Uadjet: I seem to recall a lot of the harvesting resources being well away from roads in Legacy. If that's the case now, with this larger map, we'll need players to map locations, but that'll be hard without a means of sharing map locations with others.
Damola: Hmmm, maybe Damola's path way today went into areas that are not yet well developed map wise.
Anysu: That makes it hard away from road.. due to vastness
Damola: I remember Resildren saying there are a lot of harvesting places.
Damola: Maybe next times I try more the traditional PS Legacy path ways that may be more developed regarding their maps.
Mohonin: i tried feverfew near the pool of stealth, i found it wud let me do succesfull harvesting only 5 times then it depletes, but in that area there are 5-6 spots it spawns
Damola: Okay, Mohonin. Thats quite good. 5-6 spots.
Damola: I always found I could harvest 10 plants.
Damola: Then gone.
Uadjet: And as one despawns, another should pop up somewhere nearby.
Damola: With Glaboria I could pick a few more.
Damola: Maybe there could be some more variation regarding? 5 times and then gone.
Damola: In some places there might be more plants than in others.
Damola: So maybe have a variation from 5 to 10 times harvesting in one place, randomly chosen.
Damola: Or defined.
Damola: So maybe in a place one can harvest about 7-8 times and in another just 5 times.
Damola: I hope Resildren will read this, but I think I will point him to the protocol for the meeting.
Uadjet: I think that was mentioned before while Resi was here, and he did a ton of work on the current plant system.
Damola: Really I appreciate the new system, but I feel it could make use of some balancing in favor to be able to harvest a bit more without running for tons of times.
Anysu: Res was working on a location of plants.
Damola: It does not need to be limitless harvesting as in legacy, actually I like the better realism of the new system.
Anysu: Maybe a harvesting event would be helpful?
Damola: Yeah that as well. Hint, hint at Uadjet. :)
Damola: Well that is my feedback from actually trying to do a real harvesting tour. I hope it is useful.
Damola: Actually I have another Q, but first want to give someone else opportunity to ask a Q.
Gova: Hmmm. Maybe there's a stream I could find. I found the moved mines by watching old streams and seeing what the coordinates were. There may be something similar with harvesting locations.
Damola: Yeah, Gova. But actually players should not have to watch a 4 hour + stream to find plant locations.
Damola: Of course there could be some variety in how difficult to find plant spots. Some might be more rare or spawn at difficult to reach locations.
Gova: Nah, you just skip through the vids and watch for something that looks like a spreadsheet or editor panel with numbers on it.
Damola: Damola also follow the Irifon River for quite a while, leaving official path ways, but nothing there.
Damola: Anyway, if no one else has another Q? I would have another one.
Uadjet: Go ahead.
Damola: It is about Amdeneir mine. The large one with the roof top. I tried a lot of places but could not mine any ore anyway? Are mining locations implemented there already?
Damola: I went all the way down and tried to mine there. But also on the way down at several locations.
Uadjet: They are not currently active.
Damola: But I also saw now clear ore indications.
Damola: Ah, I see.
Damola: That clears that one up.
Uadjet: I have suggested that if the new city management system requires stone (as opposed to metal) that these places could be used for granite or marble.
Uadjet: That would give them a use, and bring in Masonry for at least simple items.
Damola: Good idea.
Damola: On the other hand you said Amdeneir is mostly about wood? but as I see it in the city, it has a lot of stone as well.
Damola: So would be fitting.
Thosor: The whisper function needs to be fixed, it really messes up trying to contact new players.
Uadjet: It's mostly MADE of wood, but the abundance of mines is part of the city's wealth.
Thosor: And no feedback of your own typing.
Damola: Hmmm? however as I looked there was also quite some stone? Like on the path ways between houses and in lower floor of houses.
Uadjet: I agree, but I don't know how much is involved in fixing it. It may require a new release.
Damola: I agree about whisper.
Anysu: That whisper is annoying..
Uadjet: Yes, that's true. The houses is mostly wood, but it is built on a stone foundation. And those walls sure aren't made of balsa wood.
Damola: I already asked in global. Drifters nowadays only eat fish? It would be fitting. Just wanted to ask.
Damola: Cause mine needed food but did not seem to take any food.
Thosor: Mine didn't want sand cookies, but the rivnak loves them
Damola: Rivnak last I tried eat almost anything.
Damola: Carrots, appled, baked apples, honey glazed apples, cakes, cookies, nut bread.
Damola: I believe even complete meals.
Anysu: cake, cookie and nut bread seems odd for a Rivnak
Thosor: How about ale?
Anysu: ohh never tried that.
Damola: But last I feed Rivnak and Drifter they ate almost anything. My question was whether that has been adapted.
Damola: I may just have misplaced the food, but I tried several places close to the mouth of the drifter.
Anysu: good question
Gova: We can test it.
Thosor: I think the ground terrain affects food placement.
Damola: I am all for adapting it. Aside from fish drifters may also eat algae. But an apple? Unlikely.
Damola: Thosor, that is a good hint. It was outside on uneven ground.
Gova: Anyone have some food that isn't fish?
Damola: Haha, Gova tries it here.
Damola: Ah, that clears it.
Damola: It seems Thosor is right about ground terrain effect.
Gova: Ate all three.
Anysu: good to know
Damola: Not like that apple?
Uadjet: So the detection for food seems to require it to be very close, at least on the vertical axis.
Damola: Haha, vegetable noodle soup was enough?
Thosor: Should have tried ale...
Damola: Don't have ale with me. But seems my drifter already has enough.
>You have been awarded item(s) by a GM
>You gained 1 pale ale mug.
Damola: It is correctly placed, isn't it?
Anysu: yeah
Damola: It has 50 energy and is 100 happy
Damola: So maybe good enough for now.
Anysu: maybe
Damola: Anyway, do not want to take too much time for this.
Damola: Anysu want to try ale?
Uadjet: Hey, we made progress on something! That's never wasted time.
Damola: Okay, no ale.
Damola: But nut breat and cooked carrots okay.
Anysu: No ale
Anysu: And not carrots
Thosor: how about groffels and yulbars?
Damola: Oh? which one did you try first? Maybe yours had enough already as well.
Anysu: I did nut bread and then ale
Damola: My drifter took one food and was done. Which is unusual. Rivnak usually eat quite some.
Anysu: It is at 100 now
Thosor: Yes, my pets only eat once, show not full for a long time.
Damola: Ah, so maybe someone need to try ale first.
Damola: So maybe hungry drifter eat ale.
Anysu: THE RIVNAK DRANK THE ALE!!
Damola: Haha, what a lively Q&A today.
Anysu: Likes fish also
Gova: As did my drifter.
Gova: It was a 300q crayfish, though. Not too surprising.
Anysu: That was a neat test!
Damola imagines a new book in library. From Gova, Anysu and Damola "About the eating habits of Drifter and Rivnak - a scientific study with a dozen of different summons."
Uadjet: As for news , most of the last two weeks has been about AI-assisted NPC voicing.
Damola: Ah, I bet due to a lack of voice over contributions?
Damola: I meanwhile saw quite some AI assisted short films and videos. Impressive. But there are still quite some glitches here and there. However? voices are quite good, if you ask me.
Anysu: Not crazy about the enki voice.
Damola: Glitches are more in the image generation / video part.
Gonger: Professional actors / voiceover artists are rightfully concerned about this, but we would not have been able to afford them anyway.
Uadjet: Yeah. There weren't too many player contributions, so Talad tried out the AI version that he's rejected before. It has advanced tremendously, and while still imperfect it is usable.
Gonger: So for us it is either volunteered amateur work, or AI.
Damola: Yeah, Gonger.
Gonger: Or a combination of both, of course.
Damola: Regarding AI it is very important to look closely at copyright issues.
Damola: Cause it depends on what data AI models have been trained with.
Damola: And not all suppliers are transparent about that.
Damola: But I bet Talad is very well aware of that.
Damola: However, speech synthesis is not actually a new approach that just arrived with the recent AI hype.
Anysu: Curious if we have voiced npcs, can you turn them off and use text?
Damola: I bet it would be similar like with Levrus?
Damola: Levrus has some voiced parts that are still displayed in dialog bubbles and NPC chat tab.
Gonger: Oh my god... Levrus singing!!!!
Anysu: Voice off would be a handy option.
Thosor: I have old phoneme chips used to make vowel and mouth sounds
Damola imagines Levrus with a guitar rocking about "my newest spell? oh well, well, well. It went to wrong and made big bong!"
Gonger: COOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLL!
Thosor: coal! coal!
Damola: Coaaaaaaallll? coal is so coaly! Coal, coal, coal.
Damola: Black like the night. Coal, coal, coal.
Gonger: That will break any AI!
Gonger: Damola, remember the quest "More Coal" where we discover that Levrus is a musical fan...
Damola: Faintly so.
Damola: But I remember Levrus babbling around quite a huge lot in some quests.
Uadjet: Oh, god!
Damola: Ah, yeah, I remember.
Damola: Where one had to choose the next sentence to sing in the right order.
Gova: Hey, I liked that quest! It had the best reward in the game!
Anysu: Turning it off the npc voice.. would the be an option?
Damola: Oh, I forgot about the reward.
Gonger: 1 broom
Damola: Ah? that one
Gonger: And Levrus even WROTE that musical.
Anysu: I mean if they spokes word may be wrong, where text  not do much
Damola: Anysu, I bet it would be like the current voice over parts in Levrus quests.
Damola: Spoken and displayed as text on screen.
Damola: Or did Talad said it would only be voice, Uadjet?
Gonger: Also remember those ladies in Amdeneir who practice singing.
Anysu: That is what I would like to know Damola
Uadjet: I think it will always be text, with voicing added on.
Uadjet: I'll ask Talad about making it optional.
Uadjet: I can't imagine Talad getting rid of the text.
>Anysu nods at Uadjet.
Anysu: Thanks
Anysu: Especially if the voice has an accent, may not be able to make out a word.
Uadjet: Each race is getting their own accent, based on real word accents. I'm thinking the choice of accent is what Anysu objects to? Or am I misunderstanding what you've said?
Damola: I agree, Anysu.
Damola: Would always be good to read as text.
Damola: Also for rereading in chat log.
Anysu: Yes I did not like the Asian element in the enki voice
Damola: I am not sure how real world accents would match.
Anysu: It seemed they should be African or first nation people of America. Native americans
Damola: For example a Nolthrir like Damola would have some kind of more flowing accent, like water.
Anysu: Both cultures tribal histories like an enki and nomadic
Damola: However not sure what real world accent would match that.
Uadjet: I'll admit, I thought Native American for Enkidukai too.
Damola: I see.
>Anysu nods at Uadjet.
Damola: My first association is still about cats with human like intelligence for Enki.
Anysu: And I mentioned this addressed to Talad on discord
Damola: But yeah, if you look at tribal like culture, Native American is a match.
Anysu: Or even African.
Damola: For dwarves there might be some real world matches in movies of the fantasy genre.
Damola: Ah, yeah and for elves like Nolthrir and Demorian there may also be matches in fantasy genre.
Damola: But not so much in real world cultures? I'd say.
Anysu: Then that is my opinion. Not sure I'd have much sway on what Talad does. Thus I would also like to turn voice off so I do not get a voice I do not connect with an enki when I speak to enki npc
Damola: I understand, Anysu.
Uadjet: Oh, the dice game has grown more complex. NPCs can now bluff and fold.
Damola: I am also not sure whether matching to real world existing cultures is a good idea? it could be interpreted as an offence to any real world culture.
Damola: I wonder what happens when Talad tries to build AI models into the server.
Damola: But I bet the server may not be powerful enough for somewhat larger models anyway. AI is a challenging topic and needs very careful consideration.
Anysu: Although I think any native peoples would like thier voice perserved or used respectfully given thier past.
Anysu: Complicated dice game.. if complicated seem not something ssomeone would wantto spend time on?
Damola: Maybe. But AI vendors have already been sued for blatlantly copying voices of real world celebrities.
Damola: Did not really interact much with any mini games so far.
Anysu: Me either.
Uadjet: I wonder if at least a few races could have custom accents based on their languages on the wiki. DIfferent languages have different sounds, of course, so that may influence how words and spoken in game.
Damola: Yeah. But also for some language there is not much in the wiki. Like for example Nolthrir language. Just a few words.
Damola: Also? if a Nolthrir NPC speaks Nolthrir, I need subtitle translation at the moment :)
Anysu: Found some book with many words.. is how we put together the alphabet bool Migg and Anysu
Gonger: Well, expanding those languages could be either very easy or very complicated...
>Anysu nods at Gonger.
Damola: With Nolthrir language some stuff was removed due to copyright issues.
Uadjet: I know I've tried to figure out what soulds underwater races would use. All I can think of is clicks  and other hard sounds that might travel further in water.
Gonger: I am a trained Linguist, but with no experience with artificial languages. I do have knowledge about natural languages that could be useful in this context.
Gonger: Simple example, pronouns are so important that they are very short in almost all languages: Me, I, Du, Er, lui, il, etc
Damola: Uadjet, but it could also be softer sounds like with our whales. But yeah, Dolphins do make clicking voices.
Anysu: So ai voice and dice game. Anything else since over time Uadjet?
Anysu: I did not know that about you Gonger.
Uadjet: Talad did take another look at the Dryken Plane, so comments on that are still welcome.
Uadjet: Other than that, i think we're done.
Gonger: Actually I studied Computational Linguistics, so I know about both computers and languages.
Anysu: That is neat, Gonger.
Anysu: Dryken Plane we could do a whole another hour on that!
Damola: Okay, thanks a lot for the news Uadjet.
Anysu: Good to know. Damola
Damola: So if someone wants to RP a bit, like exploring the vastness of Yliakum and finding harvesting spaces or different interesting spots or crazy new dungeons or mines or what have you?
Uadjet: I'll see you all here again in two weeks, and until then maybe give an event or two a try!

Hello guys,

One word from the Yliakum Chronicler:
I did not realize how far I had fallen behind with the Q&A Proceedings. As mentioned before, this year has been challenging health-wise, but now that everything is under control, I will catch up as quickly as I can.
See you later today,

Gonger

Talad (Leader / Founder)
Eonwind (Rules)
Tuathanach (Rules)
Zunna (Rules / Settings)
Mordaan (Settings)
Venalan (Settings Lead)
Uadjet (GM Lead)
Emaline (GM Team)
Zweitholou (Art)
Gonger (PR)

Uadjet: Hello and welcome to the Developer's Q&A!
Uadjet: So, if you have any questions please step up  to the lecterns in front of the stage, and I'll start by giving a brief rundown of what's being worked on behind the scenes.
Uadjet: Since the last meeting Talad continued his work on city management.
Uadjet: There's a city management window in the supporters tab on Discord that's giving me serious Civilization flashbacks.
Uadjet: It's just a sample, but there is a lot of detail on the status of the city, including what resources it needs
Uadjet: And one bit I found interesting is that at least in the pic Hydlaa has a population of 1955.
Gonger: Which brings me to a question...
Uadjet: Yes?
Gonger: We have mixed-races marriages. What about the children? Half-breeds?
Gonger: I think that was an interesting question... :)
Resildren: meaning the models? or the concept?
Uadjet: Yeah, that's one where I'm not sure of the official answer.
Gonger: The concept. Models, yeah, good point as well.
Gonger: Maybe we should leave this for the moment as To Be Defined...
Resildren: that could be challenge, concept wise It's been RP'd in the past iirc
Anysu: I thought it was the child of a mix race would not have features of both races, but would be either race of either of it's parents
Anysu: Pretta had a ylian and a enki mate at different times. And rped it that she had four young. Two were enki and two Ylian.
Gonger: That would be the most simple way, of course, and I don't have a problem with that.
Resildren: as long it's got nothing to do with ulbers, i'm good with it
Gonger: One of my teachers at the University once said to me: "I cannot answer that question right away, and that means it is a good question."
Anysu: Modeling a mixed race character would probably be difficult to create.
Gonger: We would need a ton of new models.
Gonger: What Anysu said makes sense to me.
Resildren imagines a green dwarf with wings
Gonger: One of the Gods tosses a coin, and that determines what the child will be like.
Uadjet: It's about the only way it could work, though I can't say it's official. We do know that Diaboli+Elf=Ynnwn, at least in theory.
Thosor: or a Ylian with a tail
Anysu: Yet we do not have Ynnwn characters you can play anymore..
Uadjet: Not for now.
Anysu: Do not believe enki tails are prehensile.
Mohonin: speaking of kids, what wud be the minimum age of a kid in RL who can play this game?
Uadjet: I just went to look up tails for Diaboli and Enki. The Enki page doesn't even mention the tail!
Gonger: The game is meant to be equivalent to PG-13, if memory serves well, Mohonin.
Anysu: And if I recall right the Diaboli tails do not even show up on the models
Uadjet: So 13 up is fine. 12 and lower with supervision.
Mohonin: oh ok then 13 yrs of age  and above can play this game, Thanks Gonger Sir
Gonger: If children play, I strongly suggest to add the fact that they are young to the OOC description.
Anysu: Which seems odd if you can put a tail on an enki model why not on a Diaboli model?
Anysu: But then I am no 3D modeler.
Uadjet: I don't know. They don't really match the description of Diaboli. They're short Ynnwn. Maybe there's a hope that more appropriate models will be made later.
Anysu: I'm still waiting for a Ylian female model to be seen wearing armor.
Uadjet: That... may not be as far off as you might think.
Gonger: Hear, hear!
Anysu: That be nice. Anysu made really nice armor for Kat but she can't be seen wearing it..
Uadjet: I can say no more on the subject.
Resildren: can you also not say anything on robes being expanded?
Resildren: my demorian robes are soooo drab
Resildren: makes me feel like a potato sack
Uadjet: Uhhhh... There's an AI-generated robe in the general section on Discord.
Anysu: I really fancied my enki robe in Legacy better then psu. But that is just me.
Uadjet: Yes, Thosor?
Thosor: Just noticed the #supporters tab is not showing in Discord anymore.
Uadjet: The link to the post about Kran robes: https://discord.com/channels/378244034348449792/378244034348449794/1292564331287810108
Anysu facepaws and rolls eyes at robe before listening to Thosor
Uadjet: Or you can search for the text: "AI generated robe with gems, but needs to be adapted to a kran."
Resildren: looks good for a kran
Uadjet: If you're a supporter it should show up. Maybe ask about it on Discord?
Thosor: Ok, couldn't find info a couple mins ago  i will check later, Thank you.
Uadjet: As for robe colour, I think having... 7 or 8 different colour schemes would be nice. One for each Way, and one or two generic.
Anysu: Would like that, colors for Ways.
Resildren: we do have tailoring under the jobs tab, maybe it could be incoperated into the making of the robes?
Gonger: I see the Supporters tab, Thosor.
Uadjet: That would be nice. Even being able to change the colour of the default clothing would be huge.
Thosor: Gonger Patreon shows still supporting, hmnnnn.
Anysu: Sara can change hair color. An npc that changes clothes color could be a thing,
Gonger: Thosor, on Discord you are NOT shown as supporter.
Uadjet: Have you tried reloading the page or client, Thosor?
Thosor: I'll check it out later, thanks, just don't want to miss anything. I saw the armor, etc posts on Patren app.
Anysu: Any other news Uadjet?
Uadjet: Yeah, Talad is currently working on dice games.
Uadjet: You'll be able to gamble with NPCs (well, a few I think) and he's working on a poker-but-don't-call-it-poker dice game.
Anysu: Isn't there already a gambling npc in Hydlaa?
Uadjet: Yeah, but it's just text. This will have animations.
Uadjet: And that NPC will surely be one of the ones with the game.
Uadjet: I haven't given out dice boards in a while, I just realized.
Uadjet: Oh! And there will be sleeping!
Mohonin: so i guess there will be a sleep animation, is it?
Uadjet: Talad has some sleeping animations that he can add, and he ran a poll in Discord not long ago asking about increased regenration for players using a sleeping roll and/or tent.
Anysu: Will new models be needed for that?
Gova: I've relied on relaxing sleep and healing flash for so long I forgot that recovery is an issue.
Gonger: Whenever gambling comes up, I have to think of Paajah... Hehehe...
Anysu: Paajah is a storyline I would not mind seeing again.
Uadjet: I'm not sure, Anysu, but tents and sleeping bags are likely models that are in packs that were given out free by Unreal at some point. The just need to be scaled for each race.
Uadjet: That could happen. It's a good character.
Anysu: If it does I have another alt that might work bit better for that storyline.
Uadjet: Heh. I'll give a tip if I bring Paajah back, so you know who to bring.
Uadjet: Any other questions?
Anysu: Thanks about mentioning a tip.
Gonger: Memory refresh: Paajah was the leader of the group who ran the illegal gambling hall in Ojaveda. The group was brought down, but she escaped...
Anysu: If new dice gambling game was implimented before a return of Paajah be handy for a newly opened underground gambling place.
Uadjet: Last I checked the entrance to the gambling den was missing or underground. I'll have to take a look and see if it can be used.
Anysu: Oh maybe that is a part of storyline... Paajah came up with that new dice game as a herald to her return...
Gonger: Surely not the same spot...
Anysu: Be a way to explain why it appeared in world.
Anysu grins
Thosor: Oh, there is a book about upcoming drifter races floating near the marketplace. Behind a house
Gonger: There is a book like that on the door behind me.
Gonger: And it has been there for a long time.
Thosor: Same, I think...
Gonger: There were two races, I think, before the people behind no longer followed it.
>Uadjet picked up a book
Gonger: One race was in Ojaveda.
Uadjet: Got this one. I'll get the one near the market once we're done.
Uadjet: And speaking of being done... We are!!!
Anysu: Thanks for the update Uadjet and Gonger
Resildren: Thanks Gonger ,and Uadjet for the updates
Mohonin: Thanks for the  dev q&a, ill leave now, cya all later
Gonger: See you around. Don't forget to leave the room before quitting.

General Discussion / Re: There are so many things to do here

Now there is something more interesting to do than just gathering raw materials and crafting as i mentioned in the start of this forum thread
Now in PS Unreal there are simple Achievements kind of Quest. They are not true quest in the sense what we know about quest in the game. These are some activity you have to do with speaking to a npc included. lemme give you some examples of how these (Quest)Achievements are the types of :-
--Speak with three blacksmiths
--Speak with ten merchants
--Speak with fifteen merchants
--Speak with ten bankers
--Speak with ten trainers
--Use "Prospect Rare Plants" skill to learn about ten rare plants
--Use "Prospect Minerals" skill to learn about three mineral
etc..etc..etc..
So you see there are huge number of such Achievement(Quest) to be done. So come along in the land of Azure Sun and see how many and how fast you can complete these Achievement(Quest)
