Need GM
« on: February 11, 2007, 06:01:33 pm »
I can't login with my character Throk. Every time I do, I can see him for a split second, then it crashes. I'm stuck on the road to the magic shop, and I need a GM to move me to Hydlaa.

Ok, there was really no point in moving me to DR.

Anyway, I'm still getting crashes...this doesn't happen on any other of my characters. =/

There seems to be a policy that Game Masters can only move characters to the Death Realm.  This has to be a fairly new policy because before, such things were always up to the discretion of the Game Master dealing with the problem.  Can't the policy include a little more common sense and freedom?  It's a a lose-lose situation for GMs to be forced into this solution.  There's often a better way.

Luckily the character that got moved was a kran. If I had made an enkidukai with this problem, I'd be ticked. But I'm still crashing. =/

Player1> Hi, I'm stuck in a corner of the Fortress map.  Unstick moves me, but not to a position of freedom.  Can you use your GM powers to move me just a little bit so I'm standing on the grass?
GameMaster> If /die doesn't work, I can send you to the death realm.
Player1> Thanks, but that would mean I'd have to walk back from the Akkaio map.  Can't you just move me onto the grass?
GameMaster> I'm afraid that I'm not allowed to do that, but I can send you to the deathrealm.

Just imagine what it will be like once the death realm is further expanded.

It doesn't make me angry, I just find it a bit weird and silly.  Annoying, even.

GMs will not teleport players to a location, except in the case where there is a definite bug involved.

That's nice, but I've been stuck due to verifiable bugs and GMs have refused to help me.  Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.  One time, the GM just killed me without asking if it was ok to do so.

If the bug needs to be verified, all you need to do is warp to my location and look at my character.  You'll see that I'm stuck in the wall.  You'll also see that I'm practically where I need to be in order to walk around again.  And yet the response in many cases is "I am not allowed to teleport you to anywhere but the death realm, period.".

It seems to me that they can lookup your coordinates remotely and go look when they are not busy with other things, they can also kill you remotely and both these thing do not disrupt whatever else they may be doing. If you know there is a policy that they can only teleport you to the DR why bother to ask for anything else?

(emphasis mine)

Helping players is what GMs are supposed to be busy with.

The policy does not say that they can only teleport people to the death realm.  The policy says that they can't teleport anyone who isn't the victim of a verifiable bug.  I've had GMs move me to places other than the death realm before.

Basically there have been too many instances of players asking for teleports when offline, and there's no way to verify whether they have a bug preventing login or are just being asshats. Thus the policy. However if you are online and say there's a bug, GMs should teleport over to you and investigate. Not doing that is silly.

Well in my case, I kept crashing. Now, DR is fine with me, since I'm a Kran, but "killing without permission" makes it so that Enkidukais will be pretty ticked, especially ones that don't have all their stats maxed and have crappy stamina because of it. It actually took me an hour - with an intelligence based enkidukai - to make the walk because of my low stamina, and the bug that drains stamina way faster than it should. It'd be a lot easier to just slide them a space or two out of the bugged area so they can continue what they were doing, unless of course (enkidukais) you're in Akkaio already, or (incase you're everyone else) you're already in Hydlaa. You can afford to walk down a few roads.

Also, ICly, how do you just "appear" in the DR? If you're bugged and ask for help from a GM, they pretty much kill you. ICly, what's killing you? You might meet someone you know in DR ICly, and thus you'd have to make up something on the spot for the reason why you died. That's not roleplaying, that's pretending. However, if you get slid a few spaces over if you're stuck in a wall and meet that person walking down the road after being moved out, you can say hi to them, talk, and move on without having to pretend.

There could be OOC moments too, which is what I sometimes do, if the GM teleports over to you to see if you really are stuck. If you're not online, they should still teleport to you, just to see where you logged out at, and to see if they get stuck/crash in that spot like you did.

Now, if it had been my location that crashed me, why was I just killed? If I was an enkidukai, that'd be a major problem. There should be some type of "close to" rule, where you just get teleported somewhere close to your location, instead of being sent all the way across the world because of a bug, then trying to pretend something happened to you ICly. That's "silly," the way it was done.

But apperantly, since it wasn't my location that caused the crash, and just my character instead, it was ok.

Basically there have been too many instances of players asking for teleports when offline, and there's no way to verify whether they have a bug preventing login or are just being asshats. Thus the policy. However if you are online and say there's a bug, GMs should teleport over to you and investigate. Not doing that is silly.

Why can't they teleport to you while you're offline just to verify it? If I can't login, I don't want to be thrown across the map for it to be fixed, I'd rather just be moved a space out of that location so I can login again.

There's no way to do that. We can only teleport to online entities.

Isn't there a way to check the coordinates of where I last logged out, and just teleport to those?
